\n\n[/cs_content_seo][cs_element_text _id=”10″ ][cs_content_seo]The goal of the program is to develop the basic foundational skills and techniques of speed skating while building confidence on ice, in a fun, relaxed and supportive environment. Skaters will also have an opportunity to participate in Club Mini Meets and sanctioned competitions appropriate to their skill level if they choose. Successful completion of this program will prepare children for the subsequent Learn to Train program.
\n\n[/cs_content_seo][cs_element_text _id=”11″ ][cs_content_seo]The on ice sessions are One (1) hour in length and held twice a week at the Rocky Ridge YMCA.
\n\n[/cs_content_seo][cs_element_text _id=”12″ ][cs_content_seo]Coaches will ensure skaters are grouped together according to skill at the beginning of the season and can easily progress skaters throughout the season when participants are ready to advance to the next level.
\n\n[/cs_content_seo][cs_element_text _id=”13″ ][cs_content_seo]Skaters can wear Hockey Skates, Figure Skates or Speed Skates.
\n\n[/cs_content_seo][cs_element_text _id=”14″ ][cs_content_seo]Speed Skate rentals for the year are available at the Olympic Oval.
In addition to speed skates or hockey skates the following safety equipment will be required:
HelmetCut Proof GlovesCut Proof Neck GuardProtective eyewear, preferably with a strap as a strap is required if competingAnkle GuardsShin GuardsSoft Knee Pads
We are happy to announce that we have begun re-opening the Olympic Oval Skate Shop, however there are a few processes we required to follow.
Equipment Purchases or Rental Skates for 2021/22:
